Black dragon lord by Mystalia Black dragon lord by Mystalia
Finished commission for Mr. Gellar.

Finally done with this, you guys! It took me quite some time, but it was worth it in the end, I believe. You all know digital coloring has never been my forté, but I am actually a little proud of this one.

I was to make an illustration for a campaign in a gameguide he was creating, which was a great experience.

I'd be delighted to hear what you all think about it.

"Deep in the skarda caverns, far below Rootrock, in the center of the ancient dwarven ruins lives a dragon.  The skarda living here are servants of the ancient Dragon. Of their excavations, nearly seventy percent is given to feed the massive dragon’s hoard.  The Dragon has been here for centuries and the skarda follow its will with few questions. The hoard has become so massive that a skarda or a dwarf can smell it from two hours away."

This is beautiful! I love the choice of color and the lighting, especially. :) And there's something about the dragon's tail that is really, really cool. Great job!

Thank you so much. The positioning of the dragon's tail is only for esthetic purposes, because it couldn't possibly really be that long. But it makes for a nice, curly detail! I'm glad you like it. Thanks for stopping by!

You're very welcome! :) Yeah... that would make it rather difficult to fly, wouldn't it? xD But it looks really, really cool! And anytime!

I love the lighting effects:D I think perhaps you could improve by having either darker lines or making an entirely line-less piece though. Right now the lightness of the lines (in my opinion) gives the image a slightly dirty look.

Hmm, you think so? That may be, yes. I always lean towards strong black linework, but it wasn't requested in this commission. Perhaps you're right. I'll try to keep that in mind.

But maybe a "dirty" look might not always be bad? I don't really know what you mean with it exactly X)

But I appreciate the comment =) Always striving to improve, after all. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your opinion.

Thank you so much! I don't work with backgrounds a lot, so getting the composition right was a little difficult.

what effect does that fire have? corrosion?

The fire is actually in the background, so it's not harming the dwarves in front. =) The color comes from the acid that the dragon can spew, so I guess corrosion could be an effect of the fire.
