Cave creature by Mystalia Cave creature by Mystalia
I haven't been doing a lot of digital painting lately, so I thought I'd give it a go again, in between some commissions and uni-stuff. Still not my favorite thing ever, but it's alright, I guess. I need so much more practice in digital art. I'm also having a bit of contrast issues on different computer screens, so on some it looks really dark and on some it looks really light.

Made in GIMP.
Made use of a water stock photo and a rock stock photo on shutterstock.

Thanks! :D There are lots of things about this picture that I would do differently if I redid it now, but it was an important step in my digital progress. <yay for GIMP!>

I like the lighting, and the spikes on the creature. :D

The spikes make it a porcupine dragon ^^ It sits on the bottom of the lake and waits for people to step on it before gobbling them up!

The spikes on the back are interesting...could they be gills of some kind? allow him/her to travel many many hours underwater?

Perhaps! When I drew them I was just thinking "porcupine dragon", but they could very well be for breathing. It would be cool if he could sit underwater for hours =)

Aaaah porcupine spines...I can well imagine this guy lurking beneath the water should some uppity adventurers come and trespass in his home...just waiting for their backs to be turned and for them to be seperated >:) munch them up one by one

Haha, yes, I can imagine that too! He could sit on the bottom of the lake like big sea urchin X) Waiting for them to either hurt themselves or leave him an opening to strike.

Thank you! It's actually something I'm struggling with; I keep going back to lines when I'm trying to do lineless art. But I'll get the hang of it someday, I'm sure =)

Thank you! Yeah, maybe he's quietly waiting for some fish to snatch out of the water, or some wayward travelers who went for a swim.

Oh yeah, maybe! I'm sure he can find some sort of tunnel he can crawl out of. Or maybe he needs a friend to keep him company? Perhaps I can draw him one in the near future.

Yeah, it wouldn't be the best place to live at XD. I can totally imagine this as one of those grumpy characters for books, this picture could even be cover for a children's book, actually. XD
